Çeşme

Overview

A resort town with a really peculiar center. The castle is beautiful, the surrounding venues are decent, the bazaar is chaotic. But climb a bit toward the hills and the houses are old and neglected, with a rather colorful local population. Walk 10 minutes uphill from the marina with its million-dollar yachts and the contrast is genuinely shocking. Not quite as dramatic as the Konak-to-Kadifekale transition in Izmir, but a similar phenomenon. No safety concerns at all, the area is fine. It's just surprising that such rundown buildings remain right in the center of Cesme.

The visitor profile leans heavily toward the expat crowd. Prices are about 1.5x Urla. There are nice spots, but in terms of tourist appeal, what Cesme actually delivers is limited. Quite overrated, I'd say.

My Place Reviews

Restaurants

Çark Balık Restorant Çeşme2024★★★★☆
DeliGibi Şarküteri2024★★★★★

The lamb lokum was really good, burgers were decent too.

Çeşme Bazlama Kahvaltı - Alaçatı2022★★★★★

We'd been to their Istanbul locations before, came here too and the service is still the same quality, speed, and charm. On busy days you might wait in line a bit, but since they don't serve coffee etc., people generally leave once they finish their breakfast :)

Bars

İyi Resto Bar2022★★★★★

A perfect and well-executed spot for a snack-style concept.

Hotels

Villa Veria2024★★★★★

A clean and nice hotel for the price.

Alaçatı Selin Otel2022★★★★☆

A nice and clean establishment. No issues whatsoever aside from the rooms not having windows.

Attractions

Çeşme Açık Hava Tiyatrosu2024★★★☆☆

Nice stage but definitely don't buy E block seats. Other than that, everyone is puffing away on cigarettes.

Cesme Castle2023★★★★★

Amazing structure, we had no idea about it and stumbled upon it by chance while walking around; we were ashamed of our ignorance. If you're in Cesme, definitely stop by.

Shops

Rumeli Patisserie2024★★★★★

Their ice cream was really good. Dark chocolate, pistachio, and honey almond were great.
