Overview
It's 2024 and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport still hasn't implemented an automated system showing which parking spots are available. The lots are perpetually full anyway, mostly because expats leave their cars for 6 months without touching them. You end up driving around floor by floor searching for a spot with zero technological assistance. Embarrassing.
On top of that, as of 2024 they've eliminated the short-term parking subscriptions. There used to be nice 4-day and 7-day options. Now only 15 and 30-day plans remain, making short trips significantly more expensive.
Parking aside, the airport is generally uncrowded, making transitions smooth. SunExpress is a solid airline with direct flights to many destinations, which is a huge comfort for Izmir residents.
Where to Stay
We stayed at the TAV Airport Hotel after a flight cancellation and were quite pleased with it.
Tips & Advice
Overall, a comfortable and efficient airport. Fix the post-security dining options and sort out the parking situation, and it would be excellent.
