Overview
Despite the Christmas markets being closed, we still thoroughly enjoyed exploring this city. Compared to other German cities we'd visited, Nuremberg felt much more lively and fun, though that might have been the Christmas season effect. The historical fabric of the city is truly beautiful. Even getting lost in any random alley of the old town is a delight. Definitely worth more than one day, but three or more might be too much. A two-day visit seems ideal.
What to See
The Nuremberg Castle is lovely, and following the city walls while exploring is genuinely enjoyable. We also visited the Nazi Party Rally Grounds (Reichsparteitagsgelande), but we visited during COVID restrictions so we could only see the exterior. Even from outside, it's a historically significant structure worth visiting.
Food & Drink
Restaurants were completely packed on Saturday, reservations are essential for a good dinner spot. The Gluhwein (hot mulled wine) is really excellent, especially while walking around in cold weather.
Cafe Pique Nique has truly outstanding bagels, a must for breakfast or a snack. Cafe & Bar Celona is also a fun spot, particularly for weekend evenings when you can enjoy your meal or drinks with live music. Their tapas were solid.
Tips & Advice
Hoping to return someday when the Christmas markets are actually open.
