Overview
This was the country we had the chance to visit in November 2023 as part of our grand South America tour.
As soon as we crossed over from Bolivia, the people changed completely. While Peruvians and Bolivians look quite similar to each other, the people here are totally different. The first two countries had shorter, darker-skinned populations, while in Chile everyone walks around looking like pop stars. Country conditions are generally much better.
They fully obey traffic rules. Unlike the first two countries, pedestrian crossings are actually respected here.
People have a strangely strong fondness for Turks. It's very likely due to the influence of Turkish TV series, but whenever you tell someone you meet that you're Turkish, they treat you with extra warmth. A wonderful antidote to the prejudiced atmosphere in Europe. One person we met had even learned Turkish just for fun.
Internet infrastructure is blazing fast compared to Bolivia and Peru. While there was zero signal in rural areas over there, you can get at least 3G connectivity everywhere throughout this country.
A very enjoyable country to explore: quite modern, safe, but considerably more expensive than other South American countries, with a noticeable American influence. A beautiful South American nation overall.
