Overview
A pleasant city for a day trip even in the off-season. If you're doing a Balkan road trip between Thessaloniki and Sofia, it makes a nice midday stop. The historic center is small but enjoyable, and the restaurants serve good food. There's a curious toy craze going on, every souvenir shop sells different and original toys.
Don't pay for parking. You can easily find free spots on the side streets around the city center.
